Alternating Currents Live presents
The Tom Hamilton + Thomas Gaudynski Duo
Sunday, September 20, 7pm
Tom Hamilton - laptop, electronics
Thomas Gaudynski - laptop, guitar, electronics

Tom Hamilton is originally from Milwaukee and began his music studies at the UWM in the late 1960s. His frequent visits to Milwaukee over the past few years have included performances with numerous Milwaukee musicians including Rick Aaron, Steve Nelson-Raney, and Chris Burns. His sound installation "Off-Hour Wait State" was part of our Alternating Currents Live series in 1997 and he performed in our series a few years ago with New York trombonist Peter Zummo. This concert will feature his most recent New York-Milwaukee collaboration with sound artist Thomas Gaudynski.
Hamilton has been composing and performing for over 40 years, and his work with electronic music originated in the late-60s era of analog synthesis. Hamilton often explores the interaction of many simultaneous layers of activity, prompting the use of "present-time listening" on the part of both performer and listener. Hamilton appears on synthesizer in his own ensembles, and has performed as a member of Slybersonic Tromosome and the Noisy Meditation Band (Peter Zummo), The Spinozas (David Soldier), and Analogos (Michael Schumacher). Hamilton was a Fellow of the Civitella Ranieri Center in Umbria, Italy, and his CD London Fix received an award in the Prix Ars Electronica. His two most recent CD releases are: Shadow Machine (Pogus), with guitarist Bruce Eisenbeil, and Local Customs (Mutable), for a small ensemble with electronics. He is a longtime member of composer Robert Ashley's touring opera ensemble, and his audio production can be found in over 60 CD releases of new and experimental music.
"Tom Hamilton gives the fuzzy world of the analogue synthesizer a
steely discipline."
- Brian Morton, The Wire
