Alternating Currents Live presents: David Boykin Expanse
David Boykin first began studying music in 1991 with the clarinet at the age of 21, and in just over a decade has accomplished what could be the lifetime of achievements for many in his field. Since 1997 he has released four album length recordings under his own name. Leading band varying in size from one to thirteen pieces, he has performed at major international jazz festivals, and extensively throughout Chicago. He has also performed in Paris, France, New York City, Pittsburgh and Detroit. Currently he leads The David Boykin Expanse, which is built around a core group of instrumentalists consisting of a flutist Nicole Mitchell, saxsophonist Aaron Getsug, saxsophonist Kevin Nabors, bassist Josh Abrams, drummer Isaiah Spenser, pianist Jim Baker, and saxsophonist David Boykin. It is a forum for young talents and seasoned greats to connect in the outer dimensions of "Great Black Music".
