Savoring the Edible Book Show |
|
On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Woodland Pattern hosted Milwaukee's 2nd Annual Edible Book Show. With over 20 participants, the show was a huge success. Books were made from cheddar cheese, graham crackers, Twinkies, flour tortillas, marshmallows, phyllo dough, spinach, matzo, tofu, gravy, wasabi, and nori, just to name a few.
The winners were chosen that afternoon by viewers, who judged the entries in three categories: creativity, delectability, and difficulty. The attendees then proceeded to eat art, possibly for the first time in their lives. The winners were:
Difficulty: Meghan Allyn Johnson, with a gingerbread-marzipan creation fittingly titled From Winter to Spring.
Creativity: A tie between Jesse Graves' Play-Doh Twinkie book entitled, Define Eatable and a vegan book, The Fate of Leaves, by Rick & Salomea Ollman.
Delectablity: Whole Foods Market Bakery Team's yellow cake, A is for Apple. Since Whole Foods wasn't present to claim the prize, it was awarded to runner-up Christine Wreseiler for Edible Words - 1 Year Break Up.
