The Last Day of November, Martin, and Range
Bill Basquin returns to Milwaukee to share Range, his recently completed trilogy of films. Basquin will share other short films of his as well.
Each elegantly crafted in 16mm black-and-white, the films of Range are as tactilely beautiful as they are deeply felt, each offering a delicately rendered personal consideration of the lives of men and their relationship to the land.
The triptych includes: The Last Day of November (2001), a portrait of deer hunters and their kill; Martin (2004), an introduction to, and rumination around, a sheep shearer and his approach to life; and Range (2005), which the filmmaker describes as "a portrait of quiet reckoning about family relationships and farming." The film Range recently premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.
Bill Basquin's visit is made possible with the support of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and the Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival.
