“I have always been a listmakerit helps with what needs to be done.
For me, the successful has physical results. In the mid-1970s, I began
to keep journals that recorded daily activities in a list form, aided
by the use of a kitchen timer. Not a series of “to-dos” or a record of
exciting events, these are a testament of ordinary thingsthe small
repetitious things that form our daily lives. Started as a
documentation of ideas and their carry through, the pages have become
objects that stand in their own right. With the lists I found the shape
of a day, a week, a month.
For many years I have used traditional female objects as my forms of
expression: dolls, potholders, quilts and though I work from
drawings (many in the ever ongoing journal of lists) each piece must
evolve during construction. The work is hand sewn and that is essential
because hand work enforces an organic growth of the piece through the
time necessary for completion. I hope to be always present in all my
workto deal with both work and life with a full and open attention
to details.” - AEK
