Comin' From Where Eye'm From

I come from confusion
No, it is not an illusion
All around me is a chaotic mess
Making it harder to progress

I come from bitter happiness
My emotions, I suppress
Everything comes at its very own special price
But there is only so much that I am willing to sacrifice

I'm from the suburbs and urban streets
From white snow and crimson leaves
From public and private academies
Two schools with diverse communities

I'm from, "Come in and eat!"
"Here take my seat"
At reunions I'm from words that always repeat
"There's a cousin that I want you to meet"

I'm from red skin, brown skin, and hair that's black
I'm from generations that barely survived attack
From what lies in my mind, shows on my face
And rests on my back

Never to be removed

I Had a Dream

I had a dream only to see
what I had was lost.
God created my dream
and ever since then
I had a dream.

I had a dream
before Martin Luther King
did his "I have a dream" speech
I had a dream, at least it seems.

Before crack was out on our streets
only to see, crack was a fever.
Shortly, shortly he destroyed our
dreams, he labeled his self as search
and destroy, ohh how worth, I think.

Before aids owned
our town, only to bring an
ending to our beginning,
filling the lives of young souls and old,
from before those who

Before the world was being destroyed
this world was more than just a toy,
and just a story, and just a book, I looked
and it was just more, just more, so much more.
It was impossible to grip it, at least it seemed
even before that, I had a dream.

Before the weeping willow limbs
blew in the wind
to the weeping wolves stayed
which did not fade, only
to send a message to where
our ancestors have laid in Africa
before then, before now, before way back when.

Even before then,
and before now,
I had a dream
only to see
what we lost
in the end,
and I still do now
unless we change
all our lives around.

Because otherwise we're
just some old mystery
with no past history.

Nobody Knows

Nobody knows I want to be the first
Puetro Rican woman to climb Mt. Everest.
Nobody knows I want to go back in
time & help those who needed help.
Nobody knows how hard I've
tried to get into Dominican.
Nobody knows I want to live to
be at least 300 years old.
Nobody knows how I feel.
Nobody knows I crack my knuckles cuz
I'm nervous.
Nobody knows I tried to stop cracking
my knuckles.
Nobody knows I've cracked my knuckles
for nine years.
Nobody knows I've cracked my knuckles
in rememberance of my dad.
Nobody knows I love palm trees.
Nobody knows me much.
Nobody knows me but my lovely mother.

untitled

Tall and lonely tree
Saddens my day with sorrow
Happiness will come

Dusty rusty car
Falling apart as I write
Help is needed indeed

Fluffy black dog skips
With his loving young owner
Fills the walk with love

Nowhere

I wake up in the morning
too early in the morning.
I find myself somewhere
probably nowhere.
I'd love to know where
I am. I see children
with missing teeth, and
adults with tooth brushes
in their hands. I see people
with wired suits on, and
patients with bad teeth.
To find that I was nowhere,
I was somewhere, right
up in the dentist office.

Jewelry Box

Earrings
Bracelets
Rings
A music box
Then

This box is great
the only thing
I hate is that
I have no
rings,
a broken
bracelet,
and one
good earring,
in a broken
space.

Like a broken heart
Scattered apart
2 lovers hang alone

I wish upon you
I let you go far from here
My wish I don't spell
